//EU AI Act
EU Regulation 2024/1689With ISO/IEC 42001

EU AI Act compliance, built on ISO 42001.

The EU AI Act is the first comprehensive law on artificial intelligence, and it reaches companies outside the EU whose AI systems are placed on the EU market or whose outputs are used there. Verigo delivers one AI governance programme: an ISO/IEC 42001 management system designed to meet your EU AI Act obligations.

What EU AI Act is

One programme, two outcomes.

The AI Act classifies AI systems by risk. Unacceptable-risk practices are banned; high-risk systems (for example in employment, credit, education and critical infrastructure) carry strict requirements for risk management, data governance, documentation, human oversight, accuracy and post-market monitoring; limited-risk systems carry transparency duties; and providers of general-purpose AI models have their own obligations.

ISO/IEC 42001 gives you the management system to run all of this — policy, roles, AI risk and impact assessment, lifecycle controls, supplier oversight and continual improvement. We design your AIMS so that it produces the evidence the AI Act requires, and so it can be certified in its own right. Obligations are phasing in through 2025–2027, and we track the latest EU guidance and timeline changes for you.

The four risk tiers

Obligations scale with risk.

Unacceptable risk — prohibited

Practices such as social scoring and certain manipulative or exploitative uses are banned.

High risk — strict requirements

Risk management, data governance, technical documentation, logging, human oversight and conformity assessment.

Limited risk — transparency

People must be told when they interact with AI, and certain generated content must be disclosed.

Minimal risk — voluntary codes

Most AI applications; good practice and voluntary codes of conduct apply.

General-purpose AI models

Documentation, copyright and transparency obligations, with more for models posing systemic risk.

EU AI Act questions

Good to know before we start.

Questions about scope, timelines or how EU AI Act fits with your existing frameworks? A senior practitioner will walk you through it.

Yes, if you place AI systems or general-purpose AI models on the EU market, or if the output of your AI system is used in the EU — regardless of where your company is established.

ISO 42001 is a certifiable management-system standard for AI. It does not by itself prove AI Act compliance, but it provides the governance, risk-management and documentation backbone the Act expects. We map each to the other so one programme serves both.

In phases: prohibited practices and AI-literacy duties from February 2025, general-purpose AI model obligations from August 2025, and most high-risk obligations from August 2026 onwards, with some extending to 2027. The EU has proposed adjustments to parts of this timeline, so we confirm the dates that apply to you during scoping.

Considerably. ISO 42001 shares the same management-system structure, so your ISMS governance, internal audit and management review extend naturally. Our combined assessment reviews the shared clauses once.
